Billing is done by our parent company A-V Tronics and will appear on your credit card statement as A-V Tronics. What Is A Newsfeed?A newsfeed is the retrieval of usenet articles to store on a server. Currently a full newsfeed is approximately 900 Gigabytes per day. Upwards of 99% of that 900GB is taken by binaries. Having a full newsfeed uses a large amount of bandwidth and storage resources. A dedicated T3 is required for a full incoming feed. Why A Feed?Running your own newsfeed gives you some more control over what you offer your subscribers. You would be able to filter groups for spam, control retention, control user abuse and monitor overall use by users. Different Types Of FeedsThere are a few different types of newsfeeds available to an administrator which are all detailed below. Suck Feed A SUCK feed is a less intensive type of feed for a system. The server will not download headers for groups unless people subscribe to them. The server will then suck the headers it needs from it's peers or feed. This form of feed uses less bandwidth for the news server. Pull Feed A PULL feed is when you pull the messages from another server in order of message numbers. No interaction goes on such as in a IHAVE stuation. Alternatives to Running A NewsserverAlternatives to running your own newsserver is outsourcing and colocation. Compare outsourcing, running your own newsfeed and colocation to determine what is best for you. How can we help youThe first thing we need to find out are your requirements.
